Signal Processing for Cochlear Prosthesis: A Tutorial Review
نویسنده
چکیده
| Cochlear implants has been very successful in restoring partial hearing to profoundly deaf people. The success of cochlear implants can be attributed to the combined e orts of scientists from various disciplines including bioengineering, speech science and signal processing. This paper will present an overview of various signal processing techniques that have been used for cochlear prosthesis over the years.

Speech Processing Strategies for Cochlear Prostheses-the Past, Present and Future: a Tutorial Review
Cochlear Implants are widely accepted prosthetic devices that improve the hearing ability of people with profound hearing loss. The cochlear implant speech processor is responsible for decomposing the input sound into different frequency bands and delivering the most appropriate pattern to the electrodes. The performance of the cochlear prostheses depends on various parameters such as number of...
متن کاملAdvances in Auditory Prostheses
Advances in auditory prostheses were accompanied by competing ideas and bold experiments in the 1960s and 1970s, an interesting and exciting time that was reminiscent of the Era of Warring States in ancient China (for a detailed review see Zeng et al. 2008). The most contested technological issue was between a single-electrode (House 1974) and a multi-electrode (Clark et al. 1977) cochlear impl...

Microelectronic vision prosthesis proposes to render luminous spots (so-called phosphenes) in the visual field of the otherwise blind subject by way of an implanted array of stimulating electrodes, and in doing so restore some spatial vision. There are now many research teams worldwide working towards a therapeutic device, analogous to the cochlear implant, for the profoundly blind. Despite the...
متن کاملCochlear Implants: Signal Processing and Speech Perception
Several million Americans today have profound hearing loss, and for years they had to rely on conventional hearing aids. Although hearing aids have been found to benefit hearing impaired individuals who suffer mild to moderate deafness, they do not seem to provide much benefit to individuals with profound (sensorineural) deafness. Today, a prosthetic device, a cochlear implant, can be implanted...
متن کاملHigh Performance Programmable Bi-phasic Pulse Generator Design for a Cochlear Speech Processor
Cochlear implant devices are designed to provide sound sensation and improved speech understanding to people who are profoundly hearing impaired. Best speech recognition could be achieved by using multi-channel, multi-electrode cochlear implant devices. In a multichannel cochlear prosthesis, channel interaction and tissue damage are important issues to be solved. Speech processing and modidatio...
